I have more than 20 years of experience in academic copy editing to go with a diverse educational background. My editing career began in 1980 at UT Austin where I worked as a research guide and mentor to graduate students; my tasks included editing the theses and dissertations of my 29 clients. I later became interested in writing and attended graduate school in journalism where I took several writing courses.
In 1996, I began copyediting on a part-time basis, and the business grew slowly by word of mouth. Since 2000, I have edited hundreds of academic publications, several dissertations, and five books. During this time, I also began editing for several scholars with English as a second language. Thus I became a part-time, freelance copyeditor with a client list of professors in a broad range of disciplines: political philosophy, ecology, mathematics, Middle Eastern Studies, and Asian geopolitics.
This offered an excellent supplement to my main income as a development consultant specializing in writing proposals and project evaluations. My successful proposals brought millions into southern Belize, and I have carried out evaluations for the European Union, the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program, and many others.
In 2016, I began copyediting regularly for an academic journal, and gained extensive experience with the Chicago Manual of Style 16th Edition.
