Most of my classes in college, business school, and law school focused on very dry subjects. But I also studied more dynamic, creative subjects, like fiction writing, screenwriting, and marketing. I’m pleased to say that I’ve been able to draw upon and apply aspects from the full range of my academic experiences in my professional pursuits and leisure-time activities. I’ve drafted and edited lengthy technical manuals, and I’ve crafted and reviewed novels and screenplays. But I’ve enjoyed all of it because I love reading, writing, and helping people communicate in ways that are engaging and compelling.

I’m fascinated by the way technology has shaped the work of writers and researchers in all fields over time. (If you remember a time when two spaces were required between every sentence due to the prevalent use of typewriters, you know what I’m talking about!) Recently, there has been a rapid and dramatically increased reliance on AI in research and writing. I think AI is a valuable tool, but it certainly has its limitations. I am happy to rewrite AI-assisted and AI-generated material if what it needs is a human touch.
